Great article as it gets me thinking about the various ways to monetize my sites. With that said, my biggest hurdle has been how to get started building traffic. You see articles all over the net talking about massive traffic techniques, but I’ve never really found a guide for a fresh blog/website and how to get to their first 100, 500, or 1,000 daily uniques. Of course writing consistent quality content is key, but writing alone an audience does not make. Any tips or articles to point us to? Thanks again Sean!
The website layout: You can make affiliate marketing work no matter what website layout you choose. For example, if you’d like your site to look more like an online store similar to the popular Odditymall, nothing is stopping you to do so. There’s no rule preventing site owners from showcasing affiliate products this way. Many affiliate marketers choose a blog layout instead, often writing product information or reviews along with links going to the store.
Validating your product idea is easy, you can either check out if there is any advertisement related to the niche, or you can simply ask people about it. Yes, just read the comments from YouTube, Facebook, or from Twitter, and then just ask those who are interested in the post, “Hey, would you like to buy a step-by-step video series that shows you exactly how to do that?”
It is importing to get some formal training in affiliate marketing before hurling yourself into it. Affiliate marketing might seem like a simple thing to get into and make a career out of, but there is too much information out there to figure out what you need to know. A good way to have a focused understanding of the subject is to take an affiliate marketing course and obtain concise and comprehensive training in the field. Since the concept is rapidly evolving and changing, an affiliate marketing course will also have to be up to date to the techniques that are commonly used and not train in redundant techniques that are no longer very profitable.                        

All the work you do promoting third-party products shouldn’t be in vain. You have to understand that commissions in affiliate marketing aren’t guaranteed – you’d have to make sure your blog has traffic first, and that you’re able to encourage people to click the affiliate link. From there, you’d have to cross your fingers that these people buy something from the affiliate network so you can earn a cut from the sale.
These two services are requirements for a successful affiliate marketing website. While there are free options available, I never recommend setting up your first affiliate marketing website on a free platform.
